History:

Cambria County was formed 26 March 1804 as Pennsylvania's 41st county. The county was formed from the following other counties:
Somerset, Bedford & Huntingdon Counties
Surrounding counties: Armstrong, Blair, Centre, Indiana, Westmoreland, Clearfield

The Johnstown Flood
A wall of water which some say was 60 feet high came out of the Little Conemaugh River Valley on May 31, 1889 and crashed into the city of Johnstown. The center of the city was mostly destroyed and thousands were killed.

The Portage Tunnel in Cambria County is the first railway tunnel in the United States.
The steepest vehicular inclined plane in the world (grade 71%) is in Johnstown in Cambria County.
The Potato Fest - each October in Ebensburg. This festival is for potato lovers of all ages and helps promote the fact that Cambria County is the second largest potato producer in the entire state.
